Luigi Attademo; Bach (1685-1750)

Description:

The album consists of Bach's famous pieces such as Toccata and Fugue and Chaconne beginning with the Prelude on the Mean Rule on guitar, Toccata and Fugue, Chaconne, Aria from Goltberg Variations, Aria on the G line, Largo, Gavotte, and Siciliano. The liner notes by the performers themselves are interesting, such as the fact that they played "O Lord, Joy of Man's Desiring" with Lipatti's recording in mind, or that the string-like writing of the Toccata and Fugue is better suited for guitar. Bach and GuitarBach arranged many of his own works and those of others, and was active in arranging them for use in concerts at the Collegium Musicum, a private organization with which he was involved. The German population and economy during Bach's time were weak due to the terrible Thirty Years' War [1618-1648], the Swedish War, and the epidemic of plague, and the baroque guitar, which was popular in southern Europe at the time, was not widely used. However, Bach did compose and arrange music for the lute, and if he had encountered the guitar, he would have been greatly inspired by it. This guitar album is quite fascinating to listen to Bach's famous melodies expressed with a gentle elasticity on the guitar. Born in Naples in 1972. Studied under guitarist and composer Angelo Gilardino. He also graduated in philosophy and wrote a thesis on musical interpretation, which was eventually published as a book on the same subject. He has won prizes at national and international competitions, including the International Music Competition (CIEM) in Geneva (1995). Since then, he has been active in both solo and chamber music. While cataloguing manuscripts in the archives of the Andrés Segovia Foundation (Linares, Spain), he discovered unknown works by important composers such as Jaume Pahisa, Alexandre Tansman, and Gaspar Casado, and made world premiere recordings of some of these works. Attademo has also worked with viola player Simone Gramaglia on chamber music, recording an album dedicated to Paganini, as well as contemporary works such as Henze's "El Cimarron" and Alessandro Sorbiati's Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra.
