Soprano Elsa Dreizig, with roots in Denmark and France, has already performed at major opera houses worldwide, including La Scala in Milan, the Berlin State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, and the Salzburg Festival. She is one of the most sought-after voices today. Her voice combines crystalline clarity, overwhelming power, and supple elegance, allowing her to freely command delicate emotional expression and exceptional technique. This work, Invocation, is a program gathering scenes of "prayer," "supplication," and "pleading" found within opera. It is not a collection of religious works, but rather a journey delving deep into the human soul, with each aria reflecting the inner world of its characters from a different angle. What they share is the stillness and concentration brought by the act of "prayer," and the moment of inner revelation. Centered around famous prayer arias like Norma's "Pure Goddess," this recording features Scandinavian songs dedicated to her Nordic roots, plus the world premiere recording of Anna di Lesburgo by Florentine composer Carolina Uccelli. Recorded with the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, conducted by Massimo Zanetti, she sings 15 arias and two songs by 14 composers in six languages. In addition to Verdi, Wagner, Puccini, Dvořák, Rossini, Gounod, Grieg, Bizet, Janáček, Frottier, and Amy Beach, the album also features works by lesser-known composers Uccelli and Peter Heyse of Denmark. Dreizig says, "There are two aspects to these prayers. One is intimacy and fragility, and the other is an appeal to a transcendent being."
