A renowned pianist under the tutelage of Resheticki. Marc Hamburg's Encores & Pieces! Marc Hamburg (1879-1960), a pianist who studied piano under the famous teacher Resheticki and was based in London, where he had emigrated from his native Russia. He was the first pianist to record Liszt's complete Hungarian Rhapsody, and is best known for his work with the Hamburg Trio, which he formed with his brothers, cellist Boris Hamburg and violinist Jan Hamburg. The Marc Hamburg recordings, reissued by APR with remastering by Androux Halifax, include a number of rare encore pieces and small pieces recorded between 1910 and 1935, including Hamburg's earliest recording from 1910, Scarlatti's "Pastoral and The program opens and closes with Scarlatti's "Pastorale et Fantasie," arranged by Tausig, the first Hamburg recording from 1910, and Rubinshtein's "Exercise in F major," the last recorded in 1935. This reissue by APR will be a rare opportunity to experience the supreme art of Hamburg, the undiscovered master pianist of the first half of the 20th century. Tokyo M-Plus
