The APR label in the U.K., which is known for its high quality reissues of Wilhelm Backhaus, has added a third volume to its popular reissue series, "The Complete Studio Recordings of Wilhelm Backhaus in the 1940s". The "APR" series was reissued by the "APR" label in 1940s. APR has reissued the Electrola Mozart recordings made in Berlin in the 1940s, just before Backhaus became a naturalized Swiss citizen and signed a contract with Decca and began recording in 1950, and his last HMV session recordings made in Zurich! The lively "Coronation", recorded to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Mozart's death, not only presents his own cadenza but also uses a lot of his own ornamentation, a very unusual interpretation of Mozart performances of the time. The series of recordings, recorded at the Wolfbach Studio in Zurich in March 1948, were the last recordings made by HMV before moving to Decca.A number of rare and precious performances, recorded just before a major turning point in Backhaus' career, are brought back to life in their ideal form by the "APR" remastering.
