Description:
Burtwistle’s Opera on King Arthur A reissue on the COLLINS label! This is the fourth opera by Burtwistle, a leading figure in the British music scene who, along with John Ogdon and Peter Maxwell Davies, is considered part of the Manchester School. Incidentally, Bartwistle has composed eight operas to date. Gawain is one of the Knights of the Round Table in the Arthurian legends and King Arthur’s nephew; the legend of Gawain, who lost an arm, forms a significant part of the Arthurian cycle. Bartwistle has reimagined this legend from a contemporary perspective, composing it as an expressionist opera that portrays universal human nature. Tobu Land System
