A rare CD featuring a collection of Harvey’s recent works, recorded during his visit to Japan in 2010 at the invitation of the Suntory Arts Foundation. “Bird Concerto (with Piano Song)” is a work for solo piano, chamber orchestra, and live electronics—lyrical music that begins with a profusion of birdsong that would put Messiaen to shame. Real bird calls, piano, and computer-generated bird-like sounds intertwine to create a truly mysterious world. In the other works as well, a dialogue unfolds between acoustic sounds and electronic tones—created through the interplay of solo instruments and computer-generated live electronics—drawing us into a surreal space.
