A track from David Bowie’s final years, originally included in his 13-disc box set *ICAN’TGIVEEVERYTHINGAWAY [2002–2016]* (September 2025 / Final Chapter), is now being released as a standalone single. This album marks his 25th release overall—his first in 10 years since his previous work, which could be called the precursor to surprise releases: on January 8, 2013, on his 66th birthday, Bowie—who had been away from the public eye for some time—suddenly announced the album along with a new song, and released it two months later, sending shockwaves and joy through the music scene. *THENEXTDAY* (2013; this standalone edition is a 2025 remaster). Bowie, who had fallen ill during the latter half of his previous tour and subsequently disappeared from the public eye, undertook the recording in strict secrecy with only Tony Visconti. “We swore not to tell anyone—not even our own partners,” Visconti recalls. “We wanted to create without external pressure and make it a complete surprise.” A masterpiece from his mature period, secretly produced at Magic Shop Studios in Manhattan.
