A revolution in the sacred land of music. Rattle and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra set out to bring out an unprecedented sound in this re-release of the definitive live recording from 2002. This live recording was made during a series of concerts held at the Musikvereinsaal in Vienna from April 29 to May 17, 2002. Rattle uses the Bärenreiter edition of the score, with the original two-orchestra instrumentation and double-winged violins, and while taking into account the stylistic conditions of the period, he gives stimulating interpretative expression in many places. In No. 9 in particular, perhaps in order to avoid traditional singing, he invited his former colleagues, the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus, with whom he had collaborated on various modern and contemporary works, and succeeded in creating a free and expressive chorus that was sometimes even wildly expressive. The Vienna Philharmonic responded skillfully to Rattle's demands, and the soloists and even the tutti did not lose their originality. Clamshell version. Warner Music Japan
