Description:

145th anniversary of Engelbrecht's birth and 60th anniversary of his death! A compilation of poetic and masterful performances by the famous conductor Angel Brescht, Debussy's best friend. Includes previously unreleased recordings. Desiree-Emile Engelbrecht (1880-1965) was an important figure in 20th century French music, known as a conductor, composer, and avid supporter of the French repertoire. Angel Brest made a significant contribution to French musical life, becoming the first music director of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées when it opened in 1913, and later founding the Orchestre National de Radio France, which was later renamed the Orchestre National de la Radio France. In addition to his conducting activities, he was an accomplished educator and music promoter, bringing music to a wide audience through radio. This boxed set compiles the legacy of Angelbrescht's entire discography for Pathé, Ducrete Thomson, Columbia, and Erato: SP recordings from 1929 to 1939 (CDs 10-14) and LP recordings from 1953 to 1955 (CDs 1-9), The collection includes live broadcast recordings from 1955 to 1962 (CDs 15-16), featuring interpretations of his favorite works and the major orchestral works of Debussy, who was also his friend. Many of these recordings are CD premieres, highlighting Engelbrecht's commitment to preserving and sharing the essence of French music. French composer, conductor, and writer Desiree-Emile Engelbrecht (September 17, 1880 - February 14, 1965) was born in Paris, the son of a viola player, and entered the Paris Conservatory at the young age of seven, studying solfège, harmony, and violin. However, at the age of 16, he was expelled from school after being caught playing the violin in a local café. Soon after, he was appointed second violin of the Orchestre de l'Opera. He also substituted for his friend Pierre Montoux, then conductor of the Berlioz Concerts. These experiences became important achievements for him. In 1908, he conducted the premiere of Florent Schmidt's "The Tragedy of Salome," a success that led to further work with prominent musicians, including choral conducting at the premiere of Debussy's "The Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian. In 1913, he was appointed music director of the newly opened Theatre des Champs-Elysées, which opened on April 2. He also conducted the premiere of Debussy's "Toy Box," arranged by André Caplet, in 1919. As music director of the Opéra-Comique from 1924 to 1925, Angelbresht conducted Massenet's "Manon," Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde," Debussy's "Pelléas et Melisande," and Fauré's "Masks and Bergamasque" and "Penelope. He also conducted several ballets from Sergei Diaghilev's "Ballets Russes" season; from 1928 to 1932, he conducted the Consère Padrouw. (1/2) Warner Music Japan
