The Sundays—a legendary band that delicately yet vividly colored the 1990s UK indie pop scene with their acoustic sound and crystal-clear vocals. Their three studio albums, released between 1990 and 1997, are now being reissued worldwide on CD and vinyl, spanning more than 30 years. This is the vinyl edition of the masterpiece *STATIC & SILENCE* (Japanese title: *Static & Silence*), their third album—and ultimately their final one—which was completed five years after their previous release and features a richer sound and more resonant melodies. Formed in 1987 at the University of Bristol in the UK, the band centered around guitarist David Gablin and vocalist Harriet Wheeler. In 1990, their debut album *READING, WRITING AND ARITHMETIC* immediately reached No. 4 on the UK charts, and they gained popularity for their beautiful sound—a fusion of post-punk and neo-acoustic that differed from Britpop—and their pop sensibility. Released in 1997, this album retains The Sundays’ signature sound—acoustic tones and crystal-clear vocals—while incorporating keyboards and a horn section to create a richer, more full-bodied sound. It features the single “Summertime,” which reached No. 15 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 10 on the US Modern Rock Chart. The album peaked at No. 15 on the UK charts. “Crystal-clear, cool, and sweet female vocals; melodies that resonate deep within the heart. A new album where their timeless, beautiful sound has become even more gorgeous” (from the Japanese edition’s promotional copy at the time of its 1997 release).
