The Sundays

Description:

The Sundays—a legendary band that delicately yet vividly colored the 1990s UK indie pop scene with their acoustic sound and crystal-clear vocals. Their three studio albums, released between 1990 and 1997, are now being reissued worldwide on CD and vinyl—more than 30 years later…! This is their second album, released in 1992 after they moved to the Parlophone label—the emotionally rich masterpiece *BLIND* (Japanese title: *The Story of Glass Color*), which features a more introspective and darker sound! Time flows quietly, reflected in a faintly distorted frame—. (From the Japanese release tagline at the time of its 1992 release) Formed in 1987 at the University of Bristol in the UK, centered around guitarist David Gablin and vocalist Harriet Wheeler, they debuted in 1990 with the album *READING, WRITING AND ARITHMETIC*. Taking a direction completely different from the Britpop scene that was booming at the time, With a beautiful sound—an exquisite blend of post-punk and neo-acoustic—and melodies brimming with exceptional pop sensibility, they immediately reached No. 4 on the UK charts. They went on to release three studio albums by 1997, cementing their status as a legendary band that defined the 1990s UK indie pop scene: The Sundays. The delicate guitar sounds they weave and their crystal-clear vocals, which gently envelop the listener, continue to shine with undimmed brilliance even now, more than 30 years later. This release includes their 1990 debut album *READING, WRITING AND ARITHMETIC* (Japanese title: *Angel’s Whisper*), their second album *BLIND* (Japanese title: *A Story in Glass*), released in 1992, and their third and final album, *STATIC & SILENCE* (Japanese title: *Static & Silence*), released in 1997, are set to be reissued on CD and vinyl after nearly 30 years. ★★★ *BLIND* (1992) ★★★ Having received extremely high praise for their previous album, the band moved to the Parolphone label and released this second album in 1992 (released in the U.S. by Geffen). While retaining Harriet’s magnificent vocals, the album expresses a sound with greater depth and an introspective worldview, making her crystal-clear voice stand out even more. Though it is The Sundays’ most experimental work, it is hailed as a masterpiece and one of the greatest indie pop albums of all time. It peaked at No. 15 on the UK charts.
