Description:

Cellist Jacqueline du Pré would have turned 80 on January 26, 2025, had she not died prematurely at age 42 due to illness. The record includes Saint-Saëns' famous "Cello Concerto No. 1" and a performance conducted by her husband Daniel Barenboim. Also included is Frederic Dilius' more unusual "Cello Concerto," here conducted by Malcolm Sargent and perfectly in tune with du Pré's playing and sensibility. Warner previously reissued on LP a 1968 former EMI studio recording of the Saint-Saëns concerto. This recording, also conducted by Barenboim, was with the New Philharmonia Orchestra. The live recording on this newly released record was made three years later, in 1971, in Philadelphia with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and was released on CD by Teldec in the late 1990s. Now, for the first time, it is released on vinyl, in 180g analog LP vinyl format. Remastered from the original master tapes at Art & Son Studio, Annecy, 2022. (Warner Music)
