British baritone Hugh Montague-Lendall's debut album features the richness of expression reminiscent of the best singers of the past, but with a contemporary sensibility and a superb singing style. He has appeared at the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Festival Chicago, Lyric Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Aix-en-Provence Festival and Salzburg Festival, and has been acclaimed as a "great talent - Le Figaro". On his debut album entitled "Contemplation," Le Figaro sings a wide range of beautifully, from operas, operettas, German lieder, French songs, and Broadway musical numbers, spanning three centuries. His own selection of songs is also superb. The arias include not only well-known songs but also some rarely heard arias, all of which are very enjoyable to listen to. The arias by Thomas and Korngold at the beginning of the program are especially surprising for their exquisite expression. On the other hand, the introspective expression in Duparc's "Sorrowful Song" and Mahler's "I am abandoned to the world" is just wonderful. The duo with Boudreau in "Pa Pa Pa" from "The Magic Flute" also offers rich expression reminiscent of the famous singing of Simon Keenlyside, another famous British baritone.(1/2) Warner Music Japan
