Elf, a hard rock band formed in Cortland, NY in 1967, was discovered by Ian Paice and Roger Glover, both members of Deep Purple, in 1972 and released on the Epic label. This is a reissue of their major label debut "ELF," which was released on the Epic label. The band at that time consisted of David Fenstin, Gary Driscoll, and Mickey Lee Soul, in addition to Ronnie, who took the birth name Padavona. Ronnie would later reach the pinnacle of hard rock/heavy metal vocals, but the songs on this album, such as "Hoochie Koochie Lady," "First Avenue," and "Never More," were recorded at clubs they frequented in their hometowns of New York and New Jersey at the time. The songs "Hoochie Koochie Lady," "First Avenue," and "Never More" show a strong taste of the laidback, honky-tonk, and blues music they played in the clubs they frequented in their hometowns of New York and New Jersey.Accompanying this reissue are new liner notes based on interviews with band members David Fenstin and Mickey Lee Soul, as well as Roger Glover and Ian Paice.
