The Chick Corea Electric Band, formed in the mid-1980s with the rhythm section of John Patitucci and Dave Weckl, caused a sensation with its 1986 debut album, *The Chick Corea Electric Band (original title: The Chick Corea Elektric Band), recorded in 1986 with the addition of guitarists Carlos Ríos and Scott Henderson, caused a huge sensation. Soon after, Frank Gambale replaced Rios on guitar, and the band expanded to a five-piece lineup with the addition of Eric Marienthal on alto saxophone. They released *Light Years* in 1987, *Eye of the Beholder* in 1988, their fourth album *Inside Out* in 1990, and their fifth album *Beneath the Masks* in 1991.
This live album captures their performance at London’s Royal Festival Hall in 1992, the year following the release of *Beneath the Mask*. Jimmy Earl, who was later recruited as the bassist for Electric Band II’s *Paint the World* (original title: *Paint the World*)—a project that saw a lineup overhaul—plays bass here.
In addition to numerous tracks from *Beanie the Masks*, the album also includes two songs from Electric Band II’s *Paint the World*. This is a valuable release that allows listeners to fully enjoy a performance that could only have been achieved by the band during this specific period.
