Riley B. King, better known as B.B. King, is a legendary figure in the blues music scene, often referred to as the “King of the Blues.” In 2003, B.B. King embarked on a North America-only tour consisting of 32 shows titled “B.B. King Blues Festival 2003” alongside Jeff Beck, who deeply admires him. The catalyst for this tour was B.B. King’s 50th-anniversary concert held in New York on June 17 of that year. Jeff Beck made a surprise appearance as a special guest at the concert held at the live music venue named after him, the “B.B. King Blues Club & Grill.”
The setlist for that day consisted of 14 songs, including three tracks—B.B. King’s signature song “Rock Me Baby,” Eric Clapton’s “Key to the Highway,” and B.B. King’s “Paying the Price to Be the Boss” during the encore—during which the two engaged in a guitar battle. The performance, featuring the mature blues guitar of B.B. King and the technical yet soulful guitar of Jeff Beck, was broadcast on a local radio station. This album is a live recording based on that broadcast.
