Sly & The Family Stone
Description:
Active from 1966 to 1983, Sly & the Family Stone played an important role in the development of funk, soul, rock, and psychedelic music. In addition to leader, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone, his brother Freddie, and sister Rose, the group included Cynthia Robinson on trumpet and Larry Graham on bass, making it the first major American rock group of mixed race and gender ... After a series of pop hits such as "Dance to the Music" and "Everyday People," the group shifted its style to darker-sounding albums that combined funk and social commentary, such as "There's A Riot Goin' On" and "Fresh. The band's style shifted to a darker sound, combining funk and social critique in albums such as "Funk in On" and "Fresh". However, Sly passed away in June 2025 due to various problems that arose in later years. This CD is a collection of live recordings of Sly and his band!
Sly & The Family Stone gave an outstanding performance at the Woodstock Festival in August 1969, and released the album "Stand! (original title: Stand!), which was released in the same year, and the following year, Sly & The Family Stone played their first live show on the European continent. The present album is an archival recording made during one of these radio program appearances in the Netherlands in September 1970.
The confidence nurtured by the band's growing sales is evident, and the band's high tension and crisp sound overwhelm the audience. The album is not only musically significant, but also historically significant, as it captures the moment just prior to the transformation of his own sound in the midst of changing social conditions. The bonus tracks include six live recordings from a 1973 appearance on an American TV show.
