Level 42

Description:

British funk is a new music movement that emerged in England in the late 1970s. The top band of this movement, which was derived from the American jazz/fusion movement, is Level 42. The band's sound, which consists of the colorful keyboard sounds of Mark Lindup, centered around the strong technical bass playing of leader Mark King, was a hit in the U.S. despite its sound style being different from that of American jazz/fusion. Of course, in their home country of the U.K., they have gained a huge following and have been releasing albums consistently. In 1989, the band released its first best album, "Level Best," as a milestone in its activities, which was followed by a two-week concert series in London in 1990. The band's first album, "Level Best," was released in 1989, a milestone in the band's career, and in 1990, the band played a two-week series of concerts in London, featuring not only Gary Husband, who had already become an official member, but also Alan Holdsworth as a supporting guitarist.Holdsworth was in the midst of a severe financial crisis at the time, due to the recording budget for a new album and other personal problems, so he was able to attend the London show only through the introduction of his close friend Gary Husband. The December 7, 1990 performance was recorded and broadcast for a BBC radio program, and this is a live album of the recordings from this broadcast. The live performance is gorgeous, featuring a brass section, and also features Gary Husband's technical drumming with many hands, and Alan Holdsworth's unique backing sound and guitar solos. This is a rare live archive of an unexpected side of the late Alan Holdsworth. Imported domestic edition with Japanese obi and bilingual liner notes in English. Mark King (b, vo) Mike Lindup (kbds, vo) Gary Husband (ds) Alan Holdsworth (g) Gary Barnacle (sax) John Thirkell (tp) Annie McCaig (vo) Lyndon Connor (perc, vo)
