British funk is a new music movement that emerged in England in the late 1970s. The top band of this movement, which was derived from the American jazz/fusion movement, is Level 42. The band's sound, which consists of the colorful keyboard sounds of Mark Lindup, centered around the strong technical bass playing of leader Mark King, was a hit in the U.S. despite its sound style being different from that of American jazz/fusion. Of course, in their home country of the U.K., they have gained a huge following and have been releasing albums consistently. In 1989, the band released its first best album, "Level Best," as a milestone in its activities, which was followed by a two-week concert series in London in 1990. The December 7, 1990 performance was recorded and broadcast for a BBC radio program, and this is a live album of the recordings from this broadcast. The live performance is gorgeous, featuring a brass section, and also features Gary Husband's technical drumming with many hands, and Alan Holdsworth's unique backing sound and guitar solos.
