This album is from the tour that accompanied the release of the "Black Market" album in 1976, and includes the performance at the world-famous Montreux Jazz Festival held in Switzerland on July 8, 1976. The set list consists mainly of songs from "Black Market," and also includes songs from "Mysterious Traveler," released in 1974, and "Portrait of Jaco Pastorius," Jaco Pastorius' first album as a leader. The band also performed a section of "Birdland" from "Heavy Weather" released the following year in 1977, which later became one of the band's most popular songs, at the beginning of the performance.
