The Woodstock Festival, held on a special stage built on a farm outside of New York City for three days from August 15 to 17, 1969, drew more than 400,000 people, and the spirit of the festival was reflected in the culture of the time, again demonstrating the influence of rock music. The spirit of the festival was reflected in various cultures of the time. The Who performed on the second day of the festival as one of the main acts, and their performance is still talked about as one of the best ever. At the time, the Who had released one of their masterpieces, the rock opera "Tommy," in May 1969, and to promote the album, they began a UK tour on February 21, 1969 in Birmingham, England, and a North American tour on May 9, 1969. During the tour, the band will perform at the Woodstock Festival. The main theme of this tour is to reproduce the new album "Tommy" live, and the band will also reproduce the songs from the album "Tommy" live at this rock festival, with their own signature songs in the front and back.The performance was recorded for a film that would later be aired, but in parallel it was recorded and broadcast for WNEW-FM, a New York City FM radio station specializing in rock music. The sub-master for the broadcast has been discovered and has been re-mastered to the best possible quality for this release. The set list at the time was 22 songs including encores, so this live album is a complete recording of the live performance. Since the concert was a part of the tour following the release of "Tommy," it is a rare live archive of the complete live performance of "Tommy," with the exception of four songs that are impossible to reproduce live on CD!
