At the age of 19, he was selected to join Avishai Cohen's trio, and for five years he and Mark Juliana produced four albums with Avishai, including two for Blue Note, and played about 90 shows a year. In 2011, after leaving the trio, Shai Maestro, a 28-year-old prodigy pianist and the pride of Israel, formed his own trio. His last two albums under the name of his own trio have been highly acclaimed in Japan, and his new album for 2015 is completed without a moment's delay! All the songs are new (only the Japanese version is a different session of a song from the previous album), with no covers, and only M1 is composed by the trio, but the rest of the songs are composed and arranged by Shai himself. This is a piano trio album that is sure to satisfy even the most seasoned jazz fan, and is a strong push for beginners who want to listen to jazz from now on! The rare pianist who is also the driving force behind the popularity of Israeli jazz and has an established reputation for his live performances. With a long-awaited tour of Japan scheduled for late summer, we will be keeping a close eye on Shai's activities!
