Roomies is a four-piece neo-soul band formed in 2019 around Sosuke Oikawa (Syn), who has been slowly gaining attention for their urbane sound fronted by the soulful voice of Kevin, a vocalist often cited as a reference to MJ. This is their second physical album.The album opens with "When We'll Be Together," a lighthearted prologue number, followed by "Like This Before," the most straightforward pop tune on the album, "Hypnotized," an enchanting medium tune with a "Maze meets MJ" feel, and a retake of the mellow "Sweet Dreams," which was released in March as a 7" single and sold out. The 7" single released in March was a sold-out retake of the mellow "Sweet Dreams" with Teddy Pendergrass + Hall & Oates + alpha; "Close To Being In Love," a ballad reminiscent of D'Angelo, with Kevin's appealing voice striking the heart; and "Soul," a groovy tune with a 70's-80's soul feel. The groovy "Stay As You Are" is full of soul, and the danceable title track "Echo" is the closer and the first single on the album. The result is a supremely sweet and poppy album that sometimes is straightforward in its love for soul and AOR, and sometimes is cooked up with a modern flair!
