This album is also known as the album that got David Byrne hooked on Ton Zé, and is a must have for rock fans! Ton Zé, a Brazilian musical genius who embodied the spirit of Tropicálismo more than Caetano Veloso or Gilberto Gil, is one of the greatest musicians in the world. Mr. Bongo (UK) has reissued his 1976 album, one of his best works, for the first time in many years! As the title "Samba Study" suggests, this album is an attempt to reconstruct samba, but there is no way Ton Zée would do samba straight away, and the result is an eternally new and exquisitely "weird" minimal samba-pop world where inborn psychedelia, experimental spirit, and lukewarm singing spirit are all united. The book is like an electric bath. The stimulating comfort of this work, which is like an electric bath, once attracted David Byrne (Talking Heads), which led to the release of an edited version on Luaka Bop, and then to the reevaluation of Ton Zee in the 1990s and beyond. As a result, this album was selected for Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Best Brazilian Masterpieces of All Time" (2007).Such musicality and attitude of Ton Zeh must have had no small influence on contemporary US SSWs such as Devendra Banhart and Mac DeMarco.
