This album, *A Spirit Speaks*, is the only recording left behind by the family band Descendants of Mike and Phoebe, composed of Bill Lee—known as the father of filmmaker Spike Lee, director of films such as *Crooklyn* and *Do the Right Thing*—and his brothers. “Coltrane,” a masterpiece left behind by Bill Lee—who is also famous for his legendary performances with Clifford Jordan—features a miraculous balance between the dignified beauty of the piano’s tone and a rich, weighty waltz beat. “Chick Chick,” believed to be dedicated to Chick Corea, is an up-tempo, fast-paced track.
