One of the finest albums by a female jazz vocalist from Scandinavia! We’re thrilled to announce the reissue of *Sweet Surprise*, recorded by Swedish singer Irene Sjogren with her quartet! It includes “The Real Guitarist in the House,” a classic from *Suburbia* and *Café Après-midi*! The album features a lineup of tracks brimming with that characteristic Nordic clarity, including the opener “I Thought About You,” which races along with a swing feel accompanied by Irene’s light-hearted scat singing, and the jazz ballad “Sweet Surprise,” a cover of Blossom Dearie’s song that captivates with her beautiful vocals. The standout track is the cover of “The Real Guitarist in the House,” a Steve Kuhn composition believed to be based on Monica Zetterlund’s vocal version. Considered a pinnacle of Swedish jazz bossa nova, this track is also known as a SUBURBIA ~ Café Après-midi classic. With no releases on CD or vinyl since the 2000s, it had become difficult to find—making this a long-awaited reissue!
