James Gadson, who visited Japan for the "Drum Magazine Festival 2012," realized a dream collaboration after accepting an offer from his former student, Nao Numazawa! Japan’s pride and joy, the blues band Blues the Butcher, performed a track from their live album *The Sure Shot*, recorded in 2012 with legendary drummer James Gadson—who passed away on April 2— James Gadson, who passed away on April 2, 2012. From this album, they have released a single of "Kansas City," a famous song that was also covered by The Beatles and is themed around Gadson’s hometown of Kansas City. The B-side, “Linda Lou,” is a 1959 hit by R&B singer/guitarist Ray Sharp, which was also covered by the Rolling Stones (though never released). Gadson provides lead vocals on both tracks, and the "master-apprentice" twin drumming duo—featuring a master who has perfected the essence of black music and Nao Numazawa—delivers a superb groove within a simple blues beat!
