Since the early 1980s, Shinichiro Ikebe has been composing works with strong social messages centered on the themes of “society” and “the individual.” “The course of this exploration was cut short by the Great East Japan Earthquake (3/11).” “When confronted with the grandeur of nature, both the ‘individual’ and ‘society’ are virtually powerless. Yet aren’t humans now paralyzed by arrogance, as if they had conquered this planet? I must make my reflections on this the theme of my symphonies…” Thus, adopting a new perspective of “Nature and Humanity,” Ikebe composed his Symphony No. 8, Symphony No. 9, and Piano Concerto No. 3 in 2013, the year he turned 70. This monumental CD captures the live world premieres of these three works, offering a glimpse into the current state of Shinichiro Ikebe’s artistry.
