Tomomiki Kitamura's CD "JOHN CAGE" (FOCD9850), which won the 76th Japan Arts Festival Award, is followed by Liszt's greatest piano work, "The Pilgrimage Year". This three-volume work was completed after nearly half a century of composition and elaboration. The first year (Switzerland) and the second year (Italy) reflect the main concept of Romanticism, in which a wanderer/pilgrim wanders in search of his own place. The third year is a masterpiece by a torn spirit, a conflict between a body and soul heading toward twilight and a new wave that transforms the history of music, even though he has entered the priesthood and is filled with religious sentiments. Kitamura's poetic sensibility leads him into the valley of the deep mountains with his works that color the periphery of the piece.
