Elias Grandy Sapporo Symph

Description:

This marks the debut CD release featuring Elias Grandi and the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, following Grandi’s appointment as Principal Conductor in April 2025. Grandi was born in Munich, Germany, to a German father and a Japanese mother. After a successful career as a cellist with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Komische Oper Berlin, he transitioned to conducting. In 2012, he began serving as Resident Conductor at the Darmstadt Opera. In 2015, he became Music Director of the Heidelberg State Opera and the Heidelberg Philharmonic, and in the same year, he won the top prize (second place, with no first prize awarded) at the 7th Georg Solti International Conducting Competition. He first collaborated with the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra on the 2020 production of the opera “Carmen” and will assume the position of Principal Conductor in 2025. He is scheduled to become Principal Conductor and Artistic Director of the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra in the 2026–2027 season. Great things are expected of him in the future. On the occasion of his first CD release with the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, Grandi stated the following: “Every time I perform with the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, I am reminded of this orchestra’s unique musical character. What is particularly striking is the exceptional refinement of their playing. At the same time, their performances are filled with a natural joy, and it is precisely this combination of “refinement” and “joy” that constitutes the great appeal of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. The Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara is a place that embodies the connection between music, the city, and nature. This recording captures the very atmosphere of a performance at Kitara. Because it is a live concert recording, the vitality and immediacy of the music—born when the orchestra, the hall, and the audience share the same moment—remains vividly alive. (From the liner notes) A captivating program featuring “Pastoral” and works by Strauss. The performance is graced by the powerful singing of Saki Nakae, a promising soprano from Takasu Town, Kamikawa District, Hokkaido. Fontec
