Description:
Kazuo Yoshikawa was born in Nagoya in 1954. He graduated from the Graduate School of the Tokyo University of the Arts. He studied composition under Mikio Toshima, Teruyuki Noda, and Yoshio Mamiya. His compositional activities focus primarily on chamber music, chamber operas, and choral dramas. In 1987, he co-founded the composers’ group “Hikokumin Gakuhai” with Kyoko Hagi and Rikuya Terashima. In 1996, he received the Broadcasting Culture Fund Award for his music for the NHK radio drama *Sophie’s World*. In 2004, his new Gagaku piece, *Memories of Trees*, premiered in New York. His recent works include the choral dramas *Polarno’s Square* and *Night on the Galactic Railroad* for the “Jagaimo” Choir, as well as the solo opera *Nigorie*. This album brings together a collection of Yoshikawa’s signature works spanning various genres.
