An album containing all the performances by the Tohoku Youth Orchestra at the memorial concert for director Ryuichi Sakamoto held in March 2024 will be released! The Tohoku Youth Orchestra, a mixed orchestra of elementary school to university students from Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima prefectures, was started by Ryuichi Sakamoto immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake. As a memorial performance for the director Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away on March 28 the previous year, the orchestra performed in Iwate on March 23, 2024, in Miyagi on March 24, in Fukushima on March 30, and in Tokyo on March 31. In addition to Ryuichi Sakamoto's signature pieces "The Last Emperor," "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence," "Aqua," and "The Sheltering Sky," which were also performed in Ryuichi Sakamoto's last solo piano concert work, "Opus," the concert included a performance of Ryuichi Sakamoto's compositions for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics opening ceremony. The concert is a complete collection of Ryuichi Sakamoto's music, including "El Mar Mediterrani" written by Ryuichi Sakamoto for the opening ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, and "The Song of Japanese Soccer", one of the most popular anthems in Japanese soccer. Sayuri Yoshinaga and NONO joined the reading corner. Proceeds from the sale of this album will fund our activities to continue the Tohoku Youth Orchestra.
