I first met her at a regular event called "When Picture Books and Jazz Meet. Standard and improvised music accompanied by picture book readings. The world of the picture book beyond the pale mist of the book expands in depth as the light shines through Matsuki's songs, and before you know it, you are standing in the world of the book. Poetry and Jazz" is one of the answers Matsuki found as he continued to struggle with the question of why he sings and why jazz. The scenery and story depicted in his original songs, songs from Ghibli films and "Midnight Diner," and "Evening of Full Moon," a requiem for the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, are all part of the collection of songs he has composed. Bassist Shintaro Nakamura and pianist Kazumi Tateishi outline Matsuki's thoughts as if tracing them with a brush, and make the songs shine. Joy quietly fills the world of "poetry and jazz. (C)RS
