The 2015 third album from THESCHOOL—the pinnacle of 60s-style pop from the 2010s, now with even more depth! THESCHOOL is a large-scale indie pop band centered around LIZHUNT, a talented vocalist and keyboardist from Cardiff, Wales. Formed in 2007 by LIZHUNT—who previously performed with the Motown-style indie soul-pop collective THELOVES—the band carries the legacy of ’60s girl-pop acts like THE RONETTES and THE SHANGRI-LAS into the modern indie scene. Armed with sing-along choruses, doo-wop elements, catchy arrangements, and a fresh sense of melody reminiscent of contemporaries like Belle & Sebastian and Camera Obscura, they became a new beacon in the lighthearted and intoxicating indie pop scene of the 2010s. Their third album, released in March 2015, was recorded with producer ROBJONES—also known as SLOWCLUB’s live bassist—and featured additional orchestral musicians added to the band’s usual eight-piece lineup. By boldly incorporating the dynamism of soul and rhythm and blues, they expanded the band’s ensemble to an unprecedented scale. Bittersweet harmonies intertwine with a rich horn section, evoking an overwhelming sense of euphoria mixed with a touch of melancholy. The folk-pop-style “EVERYDAY,” which evokes the spirit of the ’60s; “TILYOUBELONGTOME,” driven by powerful brass reminiscent of Wilson Pickett; and “ DON’T WORRY BABY (I DON’T LOVE YOU ANYMORE)—a poignant melody that evokes the spirit of The Shirelles—and “DO I LOVE YOU?”, infused with the passion of Northern Soul—these 12 tracks are imbued with the timeless magic of pop and meticulous arrangements. Her innocent vocals blend seamlessly with the rich instrumental sounds, inviting listeners into a blissful musical experience. A masterpiece that embodies the essence of pop music loved across generations.
