This long-awaited reissue of the legendary Hong Kong-born, Japanese-language girl pop/city pop album—which sold out immediately upon its August 2022 re-release—is finally here. Her zodiac sign is Leo, and her Hong Kong name is “Guan Shuyi.” Born in 1966, Hong Kong singer and actress Shirley Kwan recorded a demo tape for Japan’s “Marine Blue Kayō Contest,” won the Grand Prix, and made her Japanese debut on *Apollon Music Industries* under the bold tagline “Hideaki Tokunaga’s Sister.” Her long-lost Japanese-language album *Say Goodbye*, released on November 21, 1989, is finally being reissued! Liner Notes: Yuji Shibasaki For Hong Kong singer Shirley Kwan, this was the studio album that marked her Japanese debut. Produced with a stellar lineup of composers from that era—including Hideaki Tokunaga, Takashi Toshimi, Mitsuo Hagita, and Keiichi Oku—this album has become something of a holy grail for City Pop and Girl Pop enthusiasts! Shirley Kwan also signed with Polygram in Hong Kong and released her first Cantonese album, *Winter Love*, that same year. She was active not only in Hong Kong and Japan but also in Taiwan. Although she did not achieve a major hit and temporarily withdrew from the Japanese market, she returned to Japan under the name “Shirley Kwong,” riding the wave of the “Asian Wave” trend. She established a strong, enduring popularity in her home country and is still loved by many today.
