Description:
Hafael Martini, who is becoming one of Brazil's leading pianist/arrangers, releases his new album "Martelo"! Jazz, popular, chamber and electronic music. The intricate arrangements, which incorporate all kinds of music, and the tight and uninhibited ensemble of the mixed acoustic/electric sextet are truly breathtaking. Antonio Loureiro and Joana Queiroz also participate! Martelo" is a project that Hafael Martini, who is becoming one of Brazil's most respected maestros of the modern era, has been planning for many years. The songs are all written by himself (including some co-written) and are based on a solid concept. The title track "Martelo," for example, was born from an experience with his mother, who was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. It is a kaleidoscope of textures and rhythms, built around themes of repetition, expansion and contraction, erasure and construction of memory. It is performed by a mixed acoustic/electric sextet that can be described as atypical. The members are Jafael Martini (piano/synthesizer), Joana Queiroz (clarinet/bass clarinet), Luca Milanovic (violin), Felipe José (cello), Antonio Loureiro (drums), Pedro Duránguez (electronics). ), and Pedro Duránes (electronics), all of whom represent the best of the best in Minas. In particular, the presence of electronic musician Pedro Duránguez, who also co-produced this album and worked on Christophe Silva's masterpiece "Deriva" (2013), brings an essence to the album that has not been present in Martini's previous works. At the same time, the participation of Antonio Loureiro, who can express electronic music textures with nuanced drumming, is also a key point of this album. The recording was done at New Doors Vintage Keys, a Brazilian studio that boasts a vast collection of vintage synths and the latest equipment. The idea for the album itself was at least somewhat completed in 2017, so it is evident that it took at least five years to slowly take shape from there. The tight and uninhibited ensemble that embraces all kinds of music, which Martini dreamed of and pursued, has come to fruition here. These are five superb compositions that lead the listener to a profound experience, thrillingly moving back and forth between reality and unreality.
