Description:
The first monumental Mahler recording by Scholty & the LSO! The first three recordings of Nos. 1-3 are collected on three discs. The latest reissue from the original analog master tapes in the country of origin for this release. This is the world's first SA-CD release of this DECCA masterpiece by J. Culshaw and G. Parry! Excellent recording! From the series of Mahler recordings, one of the milestones in the history of all recordings, comparable to Scholte's "Ring" for Decca, the three symphonies from No. 1 to No. 3, which he recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra in his early days, are collected on three discs. In the analog era, Scholte recorded No. 4 with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1961, Nos. 5-8 & "Song of the Earth" with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in the 1970s, and No. 9 with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1967, thus completing the complete Mahler symphony cycle with three orchestras ( After that, he digitally recorded Nos. 1-4 & 9 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to complete the complete Mahler symphonies as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra). After the recording of No. 4, the recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra began with No. 1 in 1964, followed by No. 2 in 1966, and No. 3 in 1968, after No. 9 the previous year.Although these performances were recorded before the Mahler boom, they have been popular since their release as important early stereo recordings and excellent recordings on the Decca label. In 2017, this project released a three-disc set of Nos. 5-7 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as an SA-CD hybrid disc (PROC2079). The following month, we also reissued Nos. 8 and "Song of the Earth" (PROC2105). The jacket design for this reissue is the same as the one used for Nos. 5-7 (the original jacket design for each song is shown in color in the commentary and at the bottom of the tray). Please pay attention to the design of those days. (1/2)
