American jazz pianist Fred Hirsch, nicknamed the "Poet of the Piano" for his delicate touch and beautiful melodies, has been praised by Brad Meldor, who said, "If I hadn't learned from Fred, I wouldn't be playing the piano right now. Fred Hirsch, who expanded his fan base with the release of his duo album "Alive At The Village Vanguard" with Esperanza last year, is proud to present his first solo album in four years since "Songs From Home" released in 2020, as well as his first solo piano recording. This is his first solo album since Songs From Home, released in 2020, and his solo piano debut on ECM, which boasts solo piano recordings. Billy Strayhorn's "Star-Crossed Lovers," Sigmund Romberg's "Softly, As In A Morning Sunrise," Alec Wilder's "Winter Of My Discontent," Russ Freeman's "The Wind" and more. Included are selected standards and seven original compositions, with ECM's signature improvisation as one of the highlights.As versatile and exploratory as he is in trio and duo, Hirsch's unlimited range of artistry and emotional versatility is nowhere more evident than in his breathtaking solo performances, which Jazz Times magazine praised as "a complete, self-contained, uniquely pure art form. All About Jazz magazine praised Hirsch, saying, "When it comes to the art of solo piano in jazz, there are two classes of performers: Fred Hirsch and the rest. Developed with producer Manfred Eicher in the responsive acoustics of Lugano Studios, the album was recorded in May 2023. The only ECM work in which Fred Hirsch has participated so far is the duo album Sa Song Is You with Enrico Lava, released in 2022.
