This year, on the 100th anniversary of the composition of this work, which is considered a gateway to success for professional violinists, Hilary Hahn, one of the leading violinists of our time and Ysaye's granddaughter, made a long-awaited recording of the complete works. Eugène Ysaye, who after World War I decided to reduce his own solo playing and pass it on to future generations, composed one of his most ambitious works, the Six Violin Sonatas, 100 years ago in 1923, based on J.S. Bach's Partitas and embracing contemporary compositional styles, The result is a work that seems to depict a future type of violin performance. Each of the six sonatas is dedicated to a younger generation of performers, and it is Ysaÿe's hope that this music will continue to flourish for decades to come by the best performers. (C)RS
