A state-of-the-art reissue of this timeless masterpiece, which has been acclaimed worldwide since its original release. Although it has been reissued several times since the advent of the CD era, commercially available versions have long relied on sound sources digitized in the early days. For this reissue, the original analog master tapes from Germany were used to create a new digital version via high-bit, high-resolution mastering (192 kHz/24-bit), bringing all 16 exquisite tracks back to life with a fresh, vibrant sound. This recording was made when Simon Goldberg was 65 years old and was completed in just seven months, with sessions held in February, May, and September 1974 at different locations. The impact of this short recording period on the performance is remarkable; the high level of perfection achieved through concentration—as if written in a single stroke—and the rapport with pianist Lupu are truly captivating. The interplay between the violin—whose tone reaches a state of understated elegance—and the piano, which showcases the pinnacle of beauty through its exquisite touch, is widely regarded as ideal, lending this recording an eternal brilliance. While Simon Goldberg had already demonstrated a unique mastery in his recording of this piece with Lili Kraus, the natural style of his Mozart interpretation—the culmination of his artistic journey—captured the hearts of many listeners. It is truly a masterpiece among masterpieces. For this reissue, we have included Tadao Koiishi’s previously published essay, “Goldberg and Lupu,” in the liner notes. We have also retained the original jacket design. Furthermore, this Vintage+plus Vol. 29 release features a total of seven titles.
