Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition," Ravel's colorful arrangement of Mussorgsky's piano piece using his superb orchestral technique, is even more popular today than the original. Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring," which depicts pagan rituals with a primitive sound that overturns conventional musical language, has gained wide support as a 20th century orchestral piece. Karajan led the Berlin Philharmonic in the mid-1960s to record this tension-filled performance. Universal Music
