Pianist Benjamin Grover, born in 1992 Benjamin Grover is a British pianist who turned 20 in 2012. At age 11, he won the BBC Youth Music Competition and made his debut one after another at London’s Wigmore Hall—a renowned chamber music venue—and Carnegie Hall in New York, a mecca for music. Having earned a reputation as a child prodigy, he signed an exclusive contract with Decca in 2011. This album, his major-label debut, features works by Chopin, Liszt, and Ravel. The program—which interweaves Chopin’s Nocturnes between his Scherzos, followed by Liszt’s arrangements of Chopin’s songs and Liszt’s own Nocturnes—reveals Grovner’s meticulous attention to detail. At a recital held in Yokohama in January 2010, prior to signing with Decca, he performed Kapustin’s “Études”—known for their jazz-inspired phrasing and virtuosic technique—captivating the audience with his flawless technique and brilliant tone.
