This documentary film follows the history of the world's first all-female punk rock group, The Slits, from their formation in the mid-70s, through the individual members' stories after the band broke up, to their reunion in 2005, and the death of vocalist Ali Up from cancer in 2010, while making this film.
The film is composed of archival footage, many photographs never before made public, testimonies from the members, and interviews with fans, producers, critics, and others who have been influenced by the Slits, and is best expressed in the words of Ari Up. I'm not here to get people to like me. I am here to be heard.
The interview was conducted with many members of Slits, including Ali Up, Tessa Pollitt, Viv Albertine, and Palmolive, as well as original members Kate Colas, Bruce Smith (drummer for SLITS/THE POP GROUP/PiL), Budgie (drummer for SLITS/ SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES drummer), Holly Cook, Dr. No, Adele Wilson and Anna Schulte after the reunion, as well as ROXY CLUB DJ and punk documentarian Don Letts, "CUT" album producer Dennis Bovell, Paul Cook (THE SEX PISTOLS), Gina Burch (THE RAINCOATS), and Allison Wolfe (BRATMOBILE), to name a few.
The film is directed by William E. Badgley, whose 2011 debut documentary film, Kill All Redneck Pricks: A Documentary Film about a Band Called KARP of Olympia, Washington, was screened to critical acclaim in 10 countries. Badgley. This is his second feature film.
