At the "Chopin and His Europe" International Music Festival 2024, held from August to September 2024, Makoto Ozone received rave reviews for his unique interpretation of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9, "Jeunehomme," and his jazzy cadenzas. Now, NIFC—the independent label of the Polish National Chopin Institute, which organizes the festival—is releasing these rare live recordings of Makoto Ozone from 2006 and 2007! Makoto Ozone is one of Japan’s leading jazz pianists and continues to enjoy a global career through classical performances and genre-crossing crossover projects. At the 2006 Chopin Festival, he performed Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 with Alexander Rabinovich-Barakovsky and Sinfonia Varsovia. While he played the fortepiano for this piece in 2024 with the Historical Orchestra, this recording features him playing a Steinway. Furthermore, at the 2007 Chopin Music Festival, he performed Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 under the baton of Tadaaki Otaka. Combined with the Chopin waltz improvisation he played as an encore, this marks the highly anticipated release of a live recording.
