Ensenmble Arabesques
Description:
The wind ensemble of the unfortunate genius Theodore Gouvy! The Hamburg-based "Ensemble Arabesque" presents a new collection of wind ensemble works by Theodor Gouvy (1819-1898), an undiscovered master of the 19th century. Gouvy was born in the border region between France and Germany (today's Saarland), and despite his background in both cultures, he was unfairly underrated during his lifetime, being regarded as "too German in France and too French in Germany. However, Berlioz, who said, "It is a disgrace to our musical world that a talent of this caliber is unknown in Paris," praised him so highly that he has been rapidly reevaluated in recent years. This album contains his quintessential chamber works for wind instruments. It includes three masterpieces that are liturgical, melodic, and colorful: the "Septet" (written for the wind instrument society presided over by Paul Taffanel, a virtuoso flute player), the "Nonet" (probably the "Gallic Suite" from Op.90), and the "Serenade", one of his best-known works. Serenade", three masterpieces full of elegance, melody, and color. Ensemble arabesques was formed on the occasion of the Franco-German cultural festival "arabesques" that started in Hamburg in 2011.The orchestra is composed mainly of members of the three major orchestras in Hamburg (Hamburg State Philharmonic Orchestra, NDR Erb Philharmonic Orchestra, and Hamburg Symphony Orchestra), as well as Manuel Biltz (Ob, principal of WDR Radio Symphony Orchestra, Cologne), and Ulrich Hermann, former principal of Stuttgart State Opera Orchestra ( Fg), and other principal players of prestigious orchestras throughout Germany. From baroque to contemporary music, the orchestra especially focuses on discovering unknown composers and unique projects. Tokyo M-Plus
