Arthur Rubinstein

Description:

Rubinstein's last concert in his homeland! Chopin & Beethoven in Lodz in 1975! Artur Rubinstein (1887-1982) was born into a Jewish family in Lodz, a city located in central Poland, and left his mark on the history of music as one of the most famous pianists of Poland and the 20th century. On May 30, 1975, the year before his retirement, he gave his "last" concert in Poland with the Lodz Philharmonic Orchestra (now the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra) in his birthplace of Lodz, Poland. He was performing his "last" concert in Poland with the Lodz Philharmonic Orchestra (now known as the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra). With permission from Rubinstein's family, Eva, Alina, and John, the performance of Rubinstein's last concert in Lodz and Poland will be released by "NIFC (Chopin Institute/Narodowy Instytytut Fryderyka Chopina)"! Invited as a soloist to the 60th anniversary concert of the Lodz Philharmonic Orchestra, Rubinstein performed Chopin's "Piano Concerto in F minor" and Beethoven's "Emperor". The concert was a monumental event that brought honor to his hometown in the final years of his career, and also demonstrated once again the greatness of Rubinstein's presence in Poland and abroad. The Lodz Philharmonic Orchestra (now the Artur Rubinstein Philharmonic Orchestra), Rubinstein's last orchestra in Poland, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2015 and is the second permanent orchestra in Poland after the Warsaw Philharmonic. The orchestra is also the second permanent orchestra in the country after the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra.Rubinstein's hometown of Lodz is also known for its role as the de facto capital of Warsaw when the city was devastated in World War II, until 1948, when reconstruction of Warsaw began.
