Federico Guillermo and Federico Maria Sardelli’s second release in the “Modo Antico” series on Glossa! A recreation of Vivaldi’s enigmatic serenade! Federico Maria Sardelli—an Italian flutist, conductor, and renowned musicologist and historian who has released numerous valuable albums, including recordings of newly discovered works by Vivaldi—presents the second release in the Glossa (Glossa) recording, the second installment. The serenata genre, also known in Japanese as “sayakyoku,” is ideally performed at night under a clear sky (serano), and this has indeed been the tradition. Italian serenatas from the Baroque era share various characteristics with opera, oratorio, and chamber cantatas. Vivaldi’s “Serenata a tre voci, RV 690” is also known by titles such as “My Heart, Poor Heart,” derived from the opening lyrics “Miocor, poverocor.” The only surviving source is the autograph score held in the National University Library of Turin; it is said to be the least well-known of Vivaldi’s serenatas and, in a sense, his most enigmatic work. It is a love story unfolding through arias and recitatives, featuring the charming shepherd Alcindo and the fairies Eurilla and Niche; it begins idyllically and concludes dramatically. Following the previous release (GCD924601), Federico Griegel—a virtuoso who, alongside his father Giovanni Griegel, served as concertmaster of the New Italian Ensemble across two generations—once again joins the recording on violin.
