Description:

A chamber music arrangement featuring piano and flute! Beethoven’s “Emperor” and “Overture Collection”! A masterpiece among masterpieces that continues to shine brilliantly in the history of music, This highly anticipated release features the “Chamber Music Version of the Emperor”—an arrangement of Beethoven’s “Piano Concerto No. 5, ‘Emperor’” created by Ignaz Moscheles, a Bohemian-born Jewish musician and close friend of Beethoven’s, for a “piano, flute, and string quintet” ensemble! At the time, Beethoven and his works were considered the pinnacle of musical art, and his persona and music embodied the Romantic ideal of the heroic artist battling fate in the name of sublime artistry. In an era when virtuosos were praised for creating new versions by arranging works for their own performances, Moscheles—whose talent Beethoven recognized so much that he addressed his final letter to him, and who was known as one of the foremost virtuosos of his time—crafted this “Emperor” for piano, flute, and string quintet. The string quartet reinforces the high and low registers; the flute’s tone adds diversity and power in the upper register; and the double bass lends rich depth to the lower register. The recording of the Moscheles version of the “Emperor” and the chamber music arrangements of the three “Overtures” with piano and flute was undertaken by Fabrizio Dattelli, a highly accomplished pianist and professor at the Perugia Conservatory in Italy, as well as Anne Rocken, a violist who has also performed with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, and Gabriele Raggianti, principal double bassist of I Solisti Veneti. Beethoven’s masterpieces, reborn as “chamber music” arrangements by Moscheles, Limbolt, and Hummel, have been infused with new life. Be sure to pay close attention to the ensemble and its sound!
