From the “Music of Chopin’s Time” series on “NIFC,” the independent label of the National Chopin Institute of Poland, comes this album by Ensemble Dialoghi, recorded at the “Chopin and His Europe International Music Festival 2020.” Ensemble Dialoghi features fortepiano player Cristina Escrapes, one of the ensemble’s founders; Lorenzo Coppola, who has performed with leading Baroque orchestras worldwide, including the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and La Petite Bande; Kristin von der Goltz, a member of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra from 1991 to 2004; and Bart Arbaite, principal horn of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra—making it an ensemble of exceptional talent. In 2019, with a slightly different lineup, they toured Japan and generated a great deal of buzz. On this album, they perform works by the Polish composer Franciszek Ressel—a student of Haydn—as well as pieces by Schumann and Chopin with such expressive richness that it’s hard to believe they’re a period instrument ensemble.
