The 20th release from bastillemusique is a 2-CD set that traces Johannes Scheerhorn’s career spanning approximately 20 years, featuring everything from original compositions to arrangements of works by Purcell, Bach, Fauré, and Satie! The 20th album released by the Berlin-based luxury label “bastillemusique” is a collection of works by the German contemporary composer Johannes Scheerhorn (Scheerhorn). Scherhorn works across a wide range of genres, from chamber music, vocal music, and orchestral music to music for theater, and in addition to his original compositions, he also engages in transpositions of a diverse array of music spanning from the Renaissance to the present day. Many of his works have been performed by international soloists, ensembles, and orchestras. In Japan, “Kazehana”—which was given its premiere by the Ensemble Modern under the direction of Péter Eötvös with a Japanese title—was performed at the 1998 Akiyoshidai International 20th-Century Music Seminar & Festival (Music Director: Toshio Hosokawa), and Ensemble Modern, which was performed with a Japanese title, “Kazahana.” In 2005, a portrait concert was held at Tokyo Opera City. He also served as a lecturer at the Takefu International Music Festival 2007, and his students—including Yukiko Watanabe, Chieko Doi, and Antaki Inamori—are active in Japan. This album features chamber music, ensemble pieces, and orchestral works composed over a period of approximately 20 years, from 1996 to 2018. It offers a rich selection ranging from original compositions to arrangements of works by Purcell, Bach, Fauré, and Satie. In addition to a 56-page bilingual booklet (English and German) featuring program notes and interviews, the album includes a leaflet with photographs of the composer and scenes from the recording sessions.
