Chick Corea (Armando Anthony Corea), a legend of the jazz world, passed away suddenly on February 9, 2021. Upon hearing the news of Chick Corea’s passing, Italian pianist Roberto Franca, who was coincidentally in the midst of studying the 20-song collection “Children’s Songs,” decided to create an album showcasing his side as a classical composer as a tribute to this great master of the jazz world. Through three works composed over a period of about ten years—from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s—Roberto Franca has completed an important collection of piano works that helps foster a renewed appreciation for “Chick Corea as a classical composer”—a figure whose work has received little attention precisely because his identity is so deeply intertwined with jazz and improvisation—and has completed an important collection of piano works that will help foster a renewed appreciation for him. When one thinks of Chick Corea’s “classical” work, his Mozart recordings with Gulda and Anner Bylsma are the first to come to mind; however, since there have been very few recordings or projects that have spotlighted “Chick Corea the composer,” this album is sure to attract attention as a tribute to this great musician! Roberto Franca, for whom this is his debut album, is an Italian pianist of Croatian descent. At the Imola International Piano Academy, he studied piano under Boris Petrushansky and composition under Marco Di Bari. He is a highly talented artist who has built his career under the guidance of world-renowned pianists such as Gavrilov, Lorti, and Kočisch. Tokyo M Plus
